There are 210 units ranging from studios to 2-bedroom apartments, all featuring sleek, black finishes and stainless-steel appliances. Resident amenities include a sky deck, fitness center, game room, pet spa, coworking space, and club room.

The Station at Malcom Yards

Tyler Street Stacks is a new high-end, multi-family housing project located near downtown Minneapolis. The six-level building is a wood-framed structure containing a mix of 118 studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, 11 affordable housing units, and 4,824-sf of retail space. It features a two-level residential parking garage with 79 parking spaces. Construction of resident amenities included 6th level lounge with serving kitchen, two podcasting rooms, an indoor pet exercise area, micro-offices, a fitness center and yoga room, co-working spaces, and bike storage. Exterior scope elements included construction of a 2,444-sf sport field on top of the parking garage and an outdoor community deck with fire pits, grill station, and pizza oven, as well as landscaping and site improvements.

Sonder House is a 127-unit, income-restricted multi-family project located near downtown Minneapolis in the Brooklyn Center neighborhood.
The building is a four-story, wood-framed structure over a single-level, below grade heated parking garage. The building podium is made of precast concrete planks atop CMU foundation walls. Sonder House contains a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedrooms in eight different layouts. The style is modern, and the interior finishes have an upscale feel. Construction of resident amenities included a fitness center, community lounge room, clubroom with full kitchen, and a rooftop deck with fire pit. Big-D Construction Midwest completed exterior scope elements that included all associated utilities and sitework and landscaping, a picnic area, lighted dog run, and playground.

The Mera Apartments is a luxury multi-family housing project located in the up-and-coming city of St. Louis Park.
The building structure is two stories of post-tension concrete with five stories of wood framing. The Mera comprises a mix of 233 units ranging from studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units. It features a two-level residential parking garage with 327 parking spaces. Construction of resident amenities features a level 6 private dining room with an outdoor lounge looking out at the Minneapolis skyline. The list of amenities available to the residents is extensive, including a movie theatre, podcasting studios, pet spa and lounge, work-from-home stations, fitness center, yoga room, golf simulator, wine tasting room, co-working spaces, bike storage, and a maker’s space. Exterior elements include the construction of a pickleball court, an outdoor community deck with fire pits, grill stations, and a pizza oven, as well as a great space for residents&#8217; pets to run free.

Salt Lake Crossing is a five-story, 300-unit residential complex featuring modern luxury apartments atop a two-story parking garage. The developer’s goal was to offer a unique blend of community, luxury, and flexibility in a downtown urban setting. Constructed using a combination of conventional wood frame, concrete, and masonry materials, Salt Lake Crossing includes a mix of studio and &#8220;micro&#8221; one-bedroom units, each boasting high-end finishes that are unique to this region. Construction of resident amenities included a fitness center with yoga and spin studio, on-site coffee shop, rooftop spa pool, social and coworking spaces, private dog park, and a shared workspace. The project scope also included all associated sitework, utility coordination, and landscaping.

Salt Lake Crossing Apartments

Post District project is a transformative urban redevelopment in downtown Salt Lake City, revitalizing a once-abandoned industrial area. Big-D Construction built four mid-rise residential buildings and a two-story retail space, now home to Sunday’s Best restaurant.
Spanning over 750,000 square feet, this mixed-use development is one of the largest in the area. It includes residential buildings — The Register, 801 Flats, Post House North, and South — offering 580 units across various rental categories. Amenities feature a fitness center, club room, rooftop decks, and a swimming pool. The development also includes parking garages and approximately 22,000 square feet of retail space.
Big-D self-performed all structural and architectural concrete work, delivering a visually stunning project that has rejuvenated this part of the city.

Post District Mixed-Use

The Reserve at Sono project is a multi-family development in Vadnais Heights that includes apartments and townhomes.
This four-story, 140,000-sf structure features 89 units of varying size and layout, as well as 117-lower level parking stalls. Construction of the 74 townhome units total 157,000-sf and are spread between 13 different buildings, and include a wide variety of custom finishes. Community amenities include a wine bar, coffee bar, lounge, pool party room and patio, fitness center, conference room, separate moving entrance and elevator and swimming pool. Exterior work includes a central community pond, pickleball court, pavillion and dog park for Reserve residents.

The Reserve at Sono Apartments

Park Avenue Apartments is a new, upscale multi-family housing building in the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City. The project consists of a podium style multifamily building with five levels of wood framing over 2.5 levels of post tension concrete structure that contains parking/retail and units on 1.74 acres. Park Avenue is a 234-unit building with a mix of modern style residences ranging from studios to 3-bedroom floor plans. Construction of building spaces and resident amenities included an open lobby, large fitness center, an indoor-outdoor common area on the top floor, multi-use live-work clubroom, game lounge, pet wash station, bike maintenance and storage areas, and resort style terrace pool and entertainment deck. Park Avenue Apartments is one scope element of a larger, phased mixed-use development built by Big-D Construction that also included a medical office building, Class A office building, 1200-stall parking structure, and 10 acres of new roads and infrastructure.

The University of Minnesota is a public research university located in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota.
The university has more than 51,000 students enrolled, and many of those students require student housing during his and her academic careers at the institution. To keep up with demand for housing, the university is constructing a new student-living apartment.
Uncommon Apartments will be a 114-unit complex. There will be one level of underground parking for residents and 5-levels of housing. Prior to construction, Big-D had to demolish five existing multi-family buildings that were no longer occupied.

Aspire at CityPlace is a new, 253-unit, multi-family market rate apartment complex that includes a mix of 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom apartment units and 21 two-story townhomes.
The complex is a five-story structure above two levels of heated underground parking. The project features a grand, two-story lobby featuring expansive com-mon areas with a sunken lounge and various seating areas, fireplace, and coffee bar. The community room/resident entertainment suite features a full kitchen, a walk-up bar from the pool area, and private interior and exterior balconies.
Construction of resident amenities also included a state-of-the-art resident conference room and rooftop lounge with sitting areas and firepit, a large, multi-level 24-hour fitness center, yoga and spin studio, pet spa/grooming station, and a ride-in bicycle lounge with storage, maintenance, and workshop room. Golden Valley, Minnesota was first marked on the map as a farming community in the 1800s.
Since then, the community continues to grow as more families move to the city. Large employers, including General Mills, Honeywell, and Pentair, have corporate offices in Golden Valley.
Due to the demand for housing increase, the city approved plans for the construction of the Liberty Crossing Apartments and Townhouse project at the southeast corner of Medicine Lake Road and Winnetka Avenue. The project came together when the local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sold its property. The name of the new apartment complex, Liberty Crossing, is a tribute to the VFW. In fact, the new clubhouse is available to the VFW for its monthly meetings.
Several buildings were demolished before crews could begin construction. The old VFW post, a car wash, an Asian restaurant, and a vacant SIFCO building were demolished. Storm water management was key, as the area is prone to flooding. In order to protect the new development from flooding, crews needed to add an above ground pretreatment and filtration basin and a network of underground storage chambers.
Liberty Crossing stands at 5-stories and features 187 residential units with underground parking available to tenants. The units include modern studio, one, two, and three-bedroom apartment homes. Adjacent to the apartment building are 55 two-story townhomes with either a one or two car attached garage. The apartment building was fitted with solar panels to assist in the community’s energy needs.
Amenities include a resort-style swimming pool with patio and grilling areas; a 24/7 fitness center with free weights; a playground; and a fenced dog park. Residents also have access to not two, but three social areas including a game and business lounge and a large screen TV lounge.

Conveniently nestled between the Twin Cities near hotels, parks, entertainment, and the M Health Fairview Bethesda Hospital, The Preserve provides senior citizens with maintenance-free, all-inclusive living in a rustically elegant setting with incredible views of surrounding forestry, wetlands, and wildlife. Roseville Senior Living, LLC asked Big-D to construct a comfortable, private campus equipped with modern amenities that would facilitate independence and comfort for residents.
The Preserve of Roseville is a four-story facility with 103 senior living apartment-homes, complete with granite countertops, hardwood floors, and a full kitchen with an island. Thirty-two of the apartment homes are ‘Memory Care’ units, where Alzheimer’s and dementia patients can feel safe, secure, and well-cared for. The campus includes a community room, three dining areas, two dayrooms, commercial kitchen and laundry, a library, and a salon. Big-D also constructed private balconies for each apartment as well as a second-level exterior amenity deck, allowing residents to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Additionally, the facilities include two therapy tub rooms, spacious conference rooms, a comfortable reception and lobby area, a mailroom, a lounge, and a fitness room. The scope of work also included both underground and exterior parking and a canopied entrance drive.
Big-D wrapped the project in March 2020—just in time for The Preserve to welcome new residents to their comfortable, accommodating new homes with the spring season.

DARTS partnered with Real Estate Equities and Big-D Construction to build a 172-unit senior living apartment facility in West St. Paul for adults age 62 and older. With nearly all financing coming from federal tax credits managed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (or HUD), rates will not exceed 60 percent of area median rents.
Before construction could commence, Big-D crews had to demolish an existing building on-site. The Winslow is a four-story building with underground parking. Each unit includes bedrooms, a kitchen, and a washer/dryer unit. There is an arts and crafts room, salon, outdoor patio, and screened in porch for tenants to utilize. The property is within a block of a public library, health care facilities, and the Robert Street retail area.
The project comes as demand for affordable housing for seniors increases.

Located just 5 blocks west of the “great river”, is a new mixed-use project that Big-D constructed in the community of Saint Paul. The Finn is a 4-story building that features 57 apartments, 11,000 square feet of retail space, and another 8,000 square feet dedicated to office space.
The construction site is currently the home to an Edina Realty office. In order to have minimum disruptions to Edina’s employees, the project was built in two phases. Edina remains as a prominent tenant in the new complex. Light gauge metal frames outlines the retail space on the first floor. There is also a parking structure that currently accommodates more than a hundred parking stalls. The apartments range from 571 square feet to 1,500 square feet.
Big-D and the developers of the property had to work with the city and neighbors to ensure that there would be minimal disruptions to vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area as the neighborhood is home to several homes and businesses
